After reaching the summit of Mt. Hood on Sunday, June 4, 2000, Diana Bradford Kornet fell in a fatal accident. This was her second ascent of Mt. Hood with friends in addition to climbs on Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams.

Born on February 24, 1971 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Diana and her family moved to Cohasset, Massachusetts in 1976 where she grew up. She attended Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts, graduating in 1989.

Diana received a B.A. in Biology with a Certificate in Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College, graduating in 1993. She was active in music, the outdoors, and student government. She taught at The Menlo School, and then at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland before deciding she wanted to pursue a medical career. Most recently employed by the Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation in Portland as a Clinical Research Monitor, she had been accepted by the Medical School at OHSU and was excited to begin this fall.

In addition to her passion for the outdoors, she was an accomplished vocalist, performing at Dartmouth College with the Glee Club and the Dodecaphonics, a close-harmony a cappella ensemble where she sang with her older brother, John, Dartmouth '90. In Portland, she was a member of the Oregon Repertory Singers, and active in the Dartmouth Club of Oregon where she interviewed prospective students, organized a Dartmouth Glee Club concert, and served on the Executive Committee

Diana's love of the environment led her to Kenya, Jamaica and Costa Rica, where she thrived among different cultures and different social perspectives. That same love led her to settle in the Pacific Northwest, where she found a second home among friends equally committed to the environment and the arts. She enjoyed scuba diving, white-water rafting, hiking, mountain climbing, and sailing and singing with her family. She was also very creative, painting, dying silk, designing jewelry and silversmithing. Her silk scarves and ties were sold at craft shows and in several stores under her own label, "Artemis Designs."

She is survived by her parents, Diana Davis Kornet and John L. Kornet, Jr. of Cohasset, MA, her brother, John, and sister-in-law, Rebecca, who were three years ahead of her at Dartmouth, her nephew, John Wing, and niece, Rachel Diana, of Medfield, MA, her sister, Allison, of Alexandria was a year behind her at Dartmouth, her sister, Abigail, of Cohasset will be a sophomore at Connecticut College next year, her grandmother, Anne Hall Davis McMahon, and her grandfather, David M. Davis.

She will be remembered for her sense of humor and the exuberance with which she lived her life.
